About Me

My name is Avery Collyer and I am a sophomore studying at James Madison University! I'm originally from Gainesville, Virginia, where I live with my mother, brother and father. I have a dog named Chewie, and two cats as well! My father is a photographer, and growing up I was so eager to learn about his camera, his techniques, and the editing. 

That's where my dream began, and now I'm hoping to major in Media Arts and Design (SMAD) with a concentration in Digital Video & Cinema. I have minors in Media Education and Creative Writing as well. Creating media has always been a passion of mine, and something I enjoy doing in many different forms. Just a couple of months into my first year at JMU, I quickly joined the JMU Athletics Creative Media team, working to develop my videography skills across a wide variety of sports. I also edit together content for athletics, and help brainstorm marketing ideas alongside my supervisor. This past year I joined JMU's Community Engagement & Volunteer Center (CEVC) as an Outreach & Marketing Coordinator! I have loved all aspects of this job, and the ability to creatively manage the brand that is JMU CEVC. I have learned a lot working alongside my supervisor, but have come to love the job more than I can express. Media has always been a focus when I think of future careers, and I hope to be able to continue to create content that I am proud of!
